What are physical symptoms of stress?
Manifestation of dysregulation

When we expereince life's inevitable stressors, traumas, and other incidents, our fight/flight nervous system automatically kicks in to prepare us to respond to the situation. One of the most significant ways it does that is by activating ALL of our muscles. After a stressor has passed, our muscles are meant to return to a relaxed state; however, for many of us, this muscle tension gets stored in our neuromuscular memory and never fully de-activates. This means that your body always stays a bit or a lot activated, even when it should be at rest. The result is what I like to call "high resting muscle tension," and being stuck here uses up a lot of your energy that could be used for more important things like enjoying your life.
 
Common reversible symptoms of being stuck in high resting muscle tension are:

Why somatic exercises?

Did you know your nervous system is more than just our “fight or flight” or “rest and digest” branch? 

We also have a branch that you can work with directly. It’s called the somatic nervous system and includes your muscular system. Here’s the amazing part: unlike our automatic  “fight or flight” or “rest and digest” responses that we dont have voluntary control of, we do have voluntary control over our somatic system. 

That means we can actively direct our muscles to release the tension and holding patterns built up from past stress, trauma, or overwhelm, and this will deactivate our patterned "fight or flight" response. 

This is where somatic movement becomes a powerful tool for healing. 
You dont have to stay stuck! You have the ability to re-pattern your body and come back into balance.

What these exercises are not
With the rise of somatic awareness in the fitness and well-being landscapes, there are many interpretations and expressions of somatic work. All have their benefits, but not all somatic expressions are the same. 
I want to clarify that this SPECIFIC class will NOT include somatic practices such as
  • shaking
  • Tremoring
  • or large expressive movements or breathworks designed for emotional catharsis. 
Instead, we will focus on slow, gentle and intentional contractions and releases of muscle groups that are stuck in chronic holding patterns. 
While this may bring up emotional responses, the goal is not to force emotional release but rather to create space for ease, awareness, and connection within your musculoskeletal system and body.

What are clinical somatic exercises?
Clinical somatic exercises are gentle, neuromuscular movements that help release chronic muscle tension, improve mobility, and restore natural movement patterns. These exercises focus on retraining the brain-to-muscle connection through a process called pendiculation. This is a gentle contraction and release of specific muscle groups that help to relieve pain and reduce stress stored in the body.
How are these exercises different from yoga, stretching, or physical therapy?
Unlike traditional stretching or physical therapy, clinical somatic exercises work through active movement rather than passive stretching. Instead of forcing a muscle to lengthen, we use slow, controlled movements to retrain the nervous system, allowing muscles to release tension naturally.
Who can benefit from clinical somatic exercises?
Anyone experiencing chronic muscle tension, pain, stiffness, or stress-related symptoms can benefit. These exercises are especially helpful for people with:

Do I need prior experience or flexibility to do these exercises?
Not at all! These exercises are designed to be accessible for all body types and experience levels. I will guide you through movements step by step, focusing on comfort and control rather than pushing your limits.
How long does it take to see results?
Like everything in life, practice makes progress. One factor that will impact your ability to get results will reflect your consistency in practicing these exercises. 
Some people feel relief after just one session, while others notice gradual improvements over time. 
With consistent practice, most people experience significant changes within a few weeks of regular practice, with the benefits growing with regular integration.
How long do I need to practice these exercises each day/week/month?
Your daily practice can last 10 to 45 minutes, depending on the number of exercises you do and how slowly you progress through them.
On average, most of my videos that you will receive will range in the 10-15min mark.
When you first start 10-15min per day, 5-7 days a week is ideal to get results. You will receive a full recommended outline after your first session with me.
 
Are the exercises safe for everyone?
While these exercises are gentle and low-impact, they may not be suitable for pregnant women or individuals with severe mobility limitations. If you have specific concerns, consult with your healthcare provider to see if this practice is right for you.
